Mirror

The mirror is merciless and unforgiving:
look into it and you would know what I mean.
It is an eye - the mirror is an unfailing eye -
eye of your conscience - eye of your shadow.
The mirror declares your pains and moans:
before it we are all wounded, clad in scabs and pus.
The mirror's gaze is an accusing and burning finger,
the mirror's face is an ocean of shards.
